Whether you’re on a family camping trip or a business vacation, traveling with a toothbrush can be a bit of a pain. You have to find ways to store and secure your toothbrush so it stays clean and remains easy to access. In the tips below, we will go over some tips for traveling with a toothbrush so you can be prepared for your next trip.
Use a Toothbrush Cap
Toothbrush caps are great ways to protect a toothbrush from outside germs and debris. Caps can also help bristles maintain their shape in case your toothbrush gets smooshed in your bag. Some toothbrush caps are made to breathe, which means that you can keep your cap on in the hotel or wherever you are without worrying about bacteria growing. If your cap is not aerated though, you will need to leave it off until your toothbrush is fully dried.
Buy a Travel Toothbrush
It might be best for you to have a secondary toothbrush on hand to take with you when you travel. In some cases, a “travel toothbrush” will be a small toothbrush that can fit in a small pouch. We are not suggesting that you get something like that. Rather, it may be best for you to get a regular sized toothbrush that you only use for traveling. If you want to buy a new toothbrush for every trip, that’s perfectly fine. Just make sure it’s not an expensive electric toothbrush if that is the case.
Use Disposable Products
If you are going somewhere that doesn’t have sinks readily accessible, you might want to buy disposable products for dental care. You can find disposable toothbrushes and tooth wipes that do not require toothpaste and water to use. These products will not get your teeth quite as clean as regular toothbrushes will, but they can tie you over until you get back home.
Eat Healthy Meals
It’s normal to change your eating habits when you go on vacation. If you do this though, try to think about your oral health along the way. It is best to avoid foods with access sugars because they can rot away teeth and feed bad bacteria in the mouth. Highly acidic foods can also be damaging to teeth because they wear down the enamel. Try to maintain a healthy balanced diet even when you are away from home.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is your body’s best friend. It will keep your mind working well, your strength levels up, and your teeth clean at the same time. Rinse your mouth out with water after eating and drinking to get rid of some of the sugars, and continue drinking water throughout the day. Then you just have to wait to brush again.
